Well, we're getting ready for football, and now there's basketball news. And it's good news too. Antoine Pettway, hero of the '03-'04 NCAA Tourney Elite 8 run, and the guy that hit the layup to give us our first SEC Championship in basketball in forever, has been hired on as an assistant coach for Mark Gottfried's staff. I'll take it. This guy had some guts. He had a desire to win that I haven't seen in these players since he left. Now, maybe he'll be able to instill that into the kids on this team. With Steele, Gee, and Green on the team, we could be a force this year.
Les Miles has got a big mouth, man. At a recent Tiger Tour Stop in New Orleans, before the SEC Media Days, he had a quick jab to tell everyone that beating Alabama wasn't that big of a deal because "a lot of teams in Louisiana beat that team." You think Nick Saban won't be using that this year? Jeeez.
My PS3 NCAA '09 dynasty is currently 5-1 after a loss to Georgia, but a 38-0 whipping of Kentucky the following week. The game is absolutely incredible.
The Times Daily has a list of the big non-conference games in the SEC this year. App State and LSU has turned into a big one. And, of course, they tell the truth by saying that, if Alabama can upset Clemson in the first game of the year, expectations will be through the proverbial roof for the rest of season in Tuscaloosa.
Then, the Times Daily decides to look at the biggest conference games for this year. Alabama only gets one mention, and that's the Saban Bowl in Baton Rouge. Things could get ugly down there this year.
The Montgomery Advertiser takes a look at the preseason magazines and throws all the expectations together to get a good average. Pretty good read.
And finally, there will be mroe reservations on campus this fall for football games, so be sure and check out UAGameday.com to make sure that your favorite parking spot isn't one of the new pay lots, etc. Read more here.
