The Palm Beach Post and WSFA in Montgomery are reporting Petrino as the backup plan if Saban says no. Who else, besides the guy that used to post "PETRINO" all the time on here and at the Capstone Report, had actually considered Bobby Petrino for this gig? I don't feel like he's qualified enough for me, although I guess I'd rather have him than Jim Grobe or Steve Kragthorpe.
The next few days are going to be busy and pretty insane.
"When speaking about his own job opportunities, Fisher said: "I don't want to take the wrong job and three or four years later, you're asking for the one you had." Fisher then smiled and said, "We all know that happens a lot."
Aside from that, regarding the outgoing Bama assistant coach that says that Saban will be announced and that he is "cleaning house"...
What really makes you think that an outgoing assistant coach would have any insight into this situation at all? I highly doubt that Mal or Dr. Witt would be chatting with assistant coaches about this. Same with the Miami staff. They may THINK that he is coming due to things they've seen, but they know just as much as we do.
And here's what we know:
1) Saban's not happy in the NFL 2) Saban misses college ball 3) Saban still has a big ego 4) Bama can make him the highest paid coach in the country 5) Despite denials, there is MUTUAL INTEREST.
I'll check out more when I get up. As for now...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
