Stoops?
Don't give up on Spurrier yet. What's he supposed to tell his kids at a scheduled team meeting...especially when they ask him what's going on? Don't expect anything this weekend. Monday we'll get a clearer picture.

All signs were pointing to everything being done after the bowl announcements on Sunday night. SC IS in talks with the Chick-Fil-A bowl, but without Spurrier, there's no way they get that deal. He wants what's best for SC, even if he leaves.

Another interesting name has been popping up. Stoops was ferocious about the boosters, etc and everything going on at Oklahoma. He has apparently mentioned in private conversations that he would like to coach in the SEC again, and the Alabama job could be perfect for him. Spurrier's wife told some of her buddies that Steve is helping Alabama with their coaching search. Of course Spurrier and Stoops are still friends, so this would make a hell of a lot of sense.

No credibility to this at all, but the name has been thrown at me a couple of times. I just hadn't thought about it until now.

Comments: Spurrier is a lost cause, Stoops is laughable. The best chance for a good coach to come to UA is RR
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:16 PM   Spurrier is staying put. God, you're pathetic.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:26 PM   quit with RR bull****. im sick and tired of hearing that Paul johnson is the right choice. That RR is the right choice. give it break. Johnson brings NCAA heat with him and as soon is Bowden retires RR is going to replace him. is that what yall want, to go thru this again in a couple of years?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:30 PM   Stoops isn't as laughable as Mike Shula being mentioned for the Miami job
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:37 PM   What a damn joke, Stoops. Why would he make a BACKWARDS move from a 12-2 Oklahoma program that is humming along at an amazing pace? They replace starting QB and RB with absolutely no problem. Forget Stoops, Spurrier, and Rod. We need Petrino and Bill Oliver or NOTHING!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:43 PM   Why the heck would he leave for FSU, and FLLOW DIRECTLY IN THE FOOT STEPS OF THE LESSER PAUL BRYANT?????

Yea right....he'll stay here at Bama for 30 years...

Coach Rod is coming and he will stay, bite it dummies....

You Coah Rod haters are jokes, we are a FAR BETTER situation than FSU, and we will ahve the money to keep him here....for a long time...

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 3:03 PM   He'll fit in with the wet backs in North Alabama
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 3:04 PM   Its Saban...then RR. Stoops rumors are the next SOS rumors(dont listen to them). Get ready b/c the Stoops rumors are coming. Now if nothing is announced by monday/tuesday...Bama is waiting on Nick Saban.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 3:06 PM   I don't care who we get as long as when the camara is pointed at the HC after a right tackle misses 3 blocks in a row he doesn't look like a deer caught in my headlights.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 3:07 PM   RR is garbage. The Big East is a joke confrence. Petrino is the only decent coach in the confrence. Schiano is a few years away, but RR has two extremely gifted players that he is relying heavily on. His "unbelievable" offense can be easily stopped by a decent defense, ie. South Florida. His defense is horrible, ie. Louisville. I don't think he would make it in the SEC.

Pat Forde, ESPN.com college football and basketball columnist, reported on Friday’s “The Dan Patrick Show” on ESPN Radio that West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez will receive an offer from the University of Alabama Saturday night to become the Crimson Tide’s next head coach. That offer will apparently be made after WVU’s regular season finale against Rutgers.

Forde’s revelation follows other media reports in the past few days which indicate that Alabama has now centered its attention on Rodriguez, after first approaching and then being spurned by current Miami Dolphin coach Nick Saban and current South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier.

Reportedly, Tide officials are ready to offer Rodriguez a guaranteed, seven-year contract worth over $3 million per year. The 43-year-old Rodriguez made $1.1 million last year at WVU, his fifth as the head coach of his alma mater. A native of Grant Town, W.Va., and a 1985 graduate of West Virginia University, Rodriguez signed a new seven-year contract with WVU this past summer calling for him to receive a guaranteed salary of $900,000 per year plus bonuses, and that guaranteed salary would increase by $50,000 each year over the life of the contract. There are also a variety of bonuses available, including an additional $75,000 for a Big East regular season title, $75,000 for a BCS bowl appearance, $25,000 for a non-BCS bowl appearance, $150,000 for a national championship and $10,000 for satisfactory evaluation of the team’s academic achievement, as well as various other incentives.

Rodriguez’s current contract at WVU also includes a hefty buy-out clause. If either the University or Rodriguez would terminate the contract prior to Aug. 31, 2007, the buy-out would be $2 million. That buy-out decreases to $1.5 million after Aug. 31, 2007.

Despite that buyout, several sources within the West Virginia athletic department have indicated that Rodriguez has said he is ready to accept the Alabama job, if offered, and that he’s already talking to members of his staff about accompanying him to Tuscaloosa.

To this point, most of the negotiations between Rodriguez and Alabama have apparently been done between agents and other third parties, so it does not appear that Rich has sat down with Alabama athletic director Mal Moore and reached a definite agreement. But all signs indicate negotiations are moving in that direction. There is time for either side to change their mind, but to this point, it appears likely that Rodriguez will become the next head coach at Alabama. An official announcement could come as early as Sunday or Monday.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:18 PM   Ok I can see that theres a little bit of anger here in the forum. Coach Rod makes sense. I am still holding out for Spurrier I have heard too many things from too many people on both sides of the gate including people that have no dog in this fight(Auburn Staff) about the OBC coming to Bama. On the other hand if SS doesnt come The job goes to Rod. He's already chomping at the bit to get to BAMA, and its been reported that he has in closed door meetings asked his staff their opinion if he does make this move. Also the new Legacy Condos being built in T Town guess who owns ones? Rich Rod does. Burt the again so does shula, and several other SEC coaches. And does anyone remember who was in Morgantown during the off season last year taking tips from Coach Rod? Thats right Bama staffers... we can speculate all we want but the public wont know until saturday nite at the earliest, and possibly not until late sunday early monday. As far as Petrino goes, hes not moving anywhere, hes holding out for ther NFL, and Greg Schiano at the state college of New Jersey is also staying put to take over Jo Pa's program at Penn State when he retires. I looks for Mal to get SS or RR in here and then step down looking like the genius that has laid the foundation to get Bama back on top and then for Ozzie Newsome to step in as AD.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 7:35 PM   I got a text message from Bamaonline.com earlier tonight. Nothing is ever for sure but bamaonline is very reliable.

"Search is focused on Saban & Rodriquez. Could know by early next week. Nick Saban has a tight timeline. If he doesn't act soon, look for Rich Rodriquez to accept."

If this is correct, all the Stoops rumors are just that, rumors....
