Read a few message boards about how Mal Moore has cancelled his trip to South Bend, IN for the basketball game on Thursday night. Does this mean a deal has possibly been reached already?

I just saw that Norm Chow has thrown his hat into the NC State job. Was there no interest in Chow in T-Town? # posted by Anonymous : 1:36 PM
How about Stoops...Anyone heard anything on him? Do you think maybe that some schools want to wait until after their bowl games to avoid distractions from the players? # posted by Anonymous : 4:25 PM

contrary to reports on FOX 10 in mobile MM is actually in Miami tonite meeting with Nick Saban. an inside source(not like the others, a real one) talked to MM earlier this afternoon after his return from New York. MM own words "im fixing to leave for miami, Nick has made certain demands before he will even listen to our offer in which we intend to meet." If all goes well they will announce the terms and agreement in a friday press conference. # posted by Anonymous : 8:01 PM
I will be saying a prayer that all goes well. I have good vibes about Saban, he darn sure proved himself at LSU. # posted by Anonymous : 9:02 PM
I know that Norm Chow is a great offensive Coordinator, but so far the Alabama search has been for a proven head coach. Two of our recent three head coaches named Mike were coordinators and didn't make the transition to head coach very well.
Bob Stoops is a really good coach at a great school and he is very highly compensated and while Alabama might be able to match his compensation, it would not want to give him such a raise that might be needed to entice him away. If he were motivated to leave by NCAA problems such as team rule violations for which his coaches were not at fault, Bama might still not be able to get him cleared for hire by the NCAA until those possible violations caused by Oklahoma supporters had been resolved.
Nick Saban would be good hire right up until the time he left Alabama, which based upon his history might well be within 2 to 4 years. Saban might have had a passing interest in Alabama as a safety net earlier on, but he has seemingly burned those bridges. The rumors about Saban must be created by those wanting Alabama to stumble into January without a head coach and have to settle for whoever was left. Then the usual mocking would peak. At best the rumors are stirred up by Saban's agent and other supporters at the Miami Dolphins to enhance his position with the owner of that team.
Coach Rod from West Virginia is really the best choice so far. But he may not be willing to make the move or any move yet. I believe in August of 2007 his $2 million buyout lapses, so after that he will be even more attractive to bigger football programs. And even more important, the Florida State head coaching position might open up. But Coach Rod has shown the potential of the Stoops and Saban and other top coaches, now he only need the institutional support and more top players to make the next giant step.
Bama needs to make an attractive offer to Coach Rod now. Or Alabama needs to get a new Athletic Director who can make a good decision in a timely manner. # posted by Anonymous : 5:17 AM
What makes you think RR will stay. he said this past summer that WVU was "his last stop" and he received a raise. All of these guys are driven by pride/greed or whatever you want to call it and RR will bolt the Tide just as fast as he would bolt his own school if the NFL or another school came with a bigger and better offer. Hell, he is winning at WVU, it is his school, he makes great jack, so why is he talking to Bama? Yes, Bama is a step up from WVU but he said that WVU was his last stop! # posted by Anonymous : 9:11 AM
I have to agree with cs here. RR is working this to his advantage at WVU. Besides, even if we get him, there is nothing keeping him from jumping ship as soon as more money is dangled in front of his eyes. Last stop, my foot. He's out for himself, and I don't think he will be an asset to UA # posted by Anonymous : 10:24 AM
I agree totally anthony but the problem is that regardless of the size of buyout, someone (booster) is always ready to step up and pay that price. Take Shula for example, one call to PBJ and MS was paid off in full; no questions asked. RR could stay in WV and win 7 to 8 games a year and win the Big East and go to a bowl and be a hero at his own school. Come to Bama, better win in a hurry, better beat Aub, etc., the expectations at Bama are greater. I just think he is playing Bama for a pay raise. I saw one alleged report that he gave Bama a 48 hour window to make an offer. It made me wonder just who in the hell he thinks he is! RR might want to take a step back and look at what is out there. Outside of the HC at Miami, who else is looking at him that will pay him the jack we are talking about? # posted by Anonymous : 11:25 AM
al.com is reporting that rr has been offered the job.

Saban rejects Alabama's offer of 10 years, $50 million plus $7 million bonus
By ARMANDO SALGUERO

Dolphins coach Nick Saban has declined a lucrative contract from the University of Alabama, which offered him a pay hike and a signing bonus to leave Miami and become the Crimson Tide's head football coach.
The preliminary offer from Alabama athletic director Mal Moore included a $5 million a year salary for 10 years and a signing bonus of $7 million.
After practice, Saban confirmed that Alabama had approached his agent, Jimmy Sexton, who said thanks but no thanks. Saban also said he never interviewed or spoke directly with Alabama officials.
Saban told his players Thursday morning he is not leaving. The coach also told owner Wayne Huizenga on Sunday he was not interested in Alabama.
Saban signed a five-year contract with the Dolphins in January 2005 that averages $4.5 million per year. # posted by Anonymous : 12:47 PM

yo chill .... I'm not saying that -but it was posted online. I'm not sure of the address but I didn't take the time to write that - I just cut and pasted. Find it for yourself. Just thought it was interesting. # posted by Anonymous : 12:58 PM
SABAN'S EGO IS BIG ENOUGH - NO NEED TO HELP WITH REPRINTING OR READING SOMETHING THAT STUPID.
C'MON 5 MIL A YEAR. NO WAY ON EARTH. WHEN THE HIGHEST IN THE SEC IS 2.2. I MAY WOULD BELIEVE 3 BUT 5 IS CRAZY!!! # posted by Anonymous : 1:01 PM
The CAPS really expresses your disagreement! I for one am TOTALLY NOT GOING TO EVER POST ANYTHING WIHTOUT MERIT AGAIN!! Go suck a fat one! Yeah, we all know the salaries - you're not privy to that information alone. Swith to decaf or go rub one off. # posted by Anonymous : 1:06 PM
I believe whenever you can double your salary - get a better office, better facilities, better recuits, etc. Then more pressure is alone a given - but yes I have to believe our offer will be enticing! Otherwise, I'm going to snap! # posted by Anonymous : 1:11 PM
Um jc, it seems you have already snapped. chill, it's tough for everyone here waiting to hear news. Just don't be so defensive and offer those words of wisdom on 'sucking' # posted by Anonymous : 1:14 PM
i agree jc
SORRY FOR THE CAPS - i am at work and everything i do is in caps so when i posted last it was in caps with no meaning what so ever.
rr would be crazy to turn this job down. # posted by Anonymous : 1:16 PM
Thanks Cynthia for your advice. I'll remember that. I'm very grateful for your concern. However, if I defend myself, it's because I feel attacked. My first response to rolltide7 was very passive and an attempt to explain the posting - I only found it interesting. However, his reply was less than understanding - so I became a bit more aggressive. I only posted a legitimate article found in a newspaper. This was not speculation, "sources", or a friend inside the department, etc. Take it for what it's worth. Oh yeah, Cynthia, . . . well, maybe I don't want to say anything else - I might get some more incredible advice. # posted by Anonymous : 1:20 PM
In total agreement if we make him an offer over 2.2 he would double his salary # posted by Anonymous : 1:21 PM
Just because I don't know, who would have to pony up the $2 million penalty if he leaves before 2007? Would it come out of his pocket, or would UA cough it up to get him? # posted by Anonymous : 2:03 PM
