I know this stuff is getting old, but hey, there's not much else to talk about. I'm beginning to feel like this coaching search has become a failure, but I'm still holding out hope that they'll find somebody competant. I do not want Rich Rodriguez. Period. I don't think he would fit down here at all. Can't really give you a reason why, other than I just don't like that style of football (don't call it "winning football").
Would probably dig Saban, for a little while, but we all know that eventually he would leave. Same with Spurrier. I like the fact that both of them are proven winners.
I think Stoops, if he's even a candidate, would hang around for a long time if he thought the place felt like home. He could do the same thing with Bama that he did with Oklahoma. Take it from nowhere and turn it into a top 10 program year in and year out.
I know the last entry was a lot to read, but I just copied and pasted an e-mail that I received.
Basically it says this:
1) Spurrier kept his name in the hat as a smoke screen 2) There were no real negotiations for him to come here...the real deal would be for Stoops 3) Stoops fits Mal's criteria (NC, experience, proven winner, etc) and he's an SEC guy 4) Stoops is unhappy at Oklahoma, due to him wanting to run a clean program and not getting much help from the administration in Norman (basketball is already on probation, he had to kick two starters off before the season for taking money, etc) 5) The real candidate is usually the least talked about
Sounds like bull, I know...but it does have some credence.
Oh well. Basketball team won again (and Kansas lost again), so we'll be moving up one more spot in the polls. We're playing at Notre Dame this Thursday, so that should be interesting. At least we'll have that since there won't be any football.
Rutgers got beat, so I'm not worried about LSU getting a BCS bid anymore. I believe it's a done deal. So we're going to Shreveport.

Actually the basketball team plays this coming Thursday at 8:00 on ESPN. I believe Alabama fans spend to much time worrying about the next head football coach. We have the sixth ranked team in country in bball and hardly anyone talks about it. At least the BOT don't interfere with the success of that program. Rich Rod would be a BETTER fit than any of them IMO. He is familiar with the deep south, he is fiery but in a way that if he wins the fans will love. He isn't afraid to tweak his Offense. Look at Tulane and Clemson vs WVA. He hires a DC and lets him work..keep Kines and we're off to the races.
He is a BETTER fit than Fran and people forget he was reaching cult status in Alabama before HE bailed. Fans did not run Fran off. RichR could do that in spades.
Now whether he WANTS that kind of attention is a different matter. THAT might be the point that creates a bad "fit". The problem is, there aren't very many people that fit into that microscope to choose from.
RichR is an exalted figure in WVA, so he's used to that angle.

I don't think that Rodriguez's style of play will win in the SEC. Don't tell me about how they won at Clemson and Tulane, etc because they didn't play anybody (and Clemson didn't really win while he was there).

I've got a pretty good job here in town, but have been born and raised a Tide fan. Season ticket holder since '88. I actually donate to the University to help support the learning process.

I completely agree with you anon. My sister-in-law is an MSU fan and thinks that only people who attended the university should be fans, and she is an educated woman with Masters degrees, lol. Shula did Alabama dirty by taking the job when he knew what a loser he was and that he had been fired at EVERY NFL job he ever had. His offenses were perpetually pitiful. No one has to attend anything to be a fan of a team, NFL teams have fans and no University so that argument is garbage. For the Shula fans, I am sorry for your loss. I don't dislike the man, but face facts, he couldn't coach and I'm not even sure that is his fault. We ran around searching for a coach because of Mike Price's disappointing actions when it wasn't optimum search time. The University should have known better than to hire someone who had no experience as head coach of a team. We have to assume some of the responsibility there, but it would have been an even bigger tragedy to leave him in the position. The guy had to feel overwhelmed and maybe this is a relief to him. Just announced - Auburn sucks! Y'all had good run recently. That's great! Alabama has reached a low and I hope everyone in redneck nation realizes this. We had a coach fooling around with his secretary - fired because of stupid decisions off the field. We had a coach hooking up with hookers - fired for stuff off the field. We had a coach lie to us and leave! Not fired. We've suffered some of the worse sanctions the NCAA has ever handed down - thanks to the collective effort of SEC coaches. Since, we've hired an inexperienced coach which turned out to be bad decision. He was fired because he couldn't get the job done. Period. We aren't looking for Bear! We're looking for a decent coach. Nothing is wrong with Alabama except that our coaches couldn't keep their pants on. However, in the past few years, we've recently renovated all of our facilities and quite frankly they make Auburn's look bad. We've expanded our stadium and it is sharp.
