A little bit more for the Stoops rumor...
There has been talk by several people supposedly "in the know" that said that Alabama is looking at a BIG NAME coach that nobody is even talking about that fits all of the criteria that Mal Moore stated in his press conference (from Jimmy Sexton and others throughout Alabama).

Rumors circulating that Jerri Spurrier is telling her friends that Steve is helping Bama with its coaching search.

Big Game Bob has won a national title and has played in several other national title games. He can take very little and do very big things with it (please see this year).

Remember, money talks, and UA, from what I'm hearing, would be willing to offer around the same type of cash as with Spurrier. Similar type of contract, but without as much control over the football program (I'm sure Spurrier's earned his stripes a bit more than Stoops).

The biggest issue right now is whether or not Stoops is happy in Norman, OK. He has, lately, been having issues with boosters, and, even though he is trying to run a clean program, the athletic administration has not been as tough as he wants to be (see Rhett Bomar and JD Quinn earlier this year). He should be losing Adrian Peterson and will have to rebuild at the skill positions again next year, and could see this wad of dollars as a chance to rebuild a monster program, much the same way he did with Oklahoma. His name has been extremely quiet around here, but I think he could be a wonderful fit.

Remember, nobody has EVER won a national championship with two schools, which should be used as a selling point, especially with big name coaches with big time egos.

More as I hear it.

Comments: Money is why they are coaching (all of them)
Spurriers team meeting :PLAYER"Hey Coach you gonna leave us"
SPURRIER "yes but dont tell anyone"
What he says doesn't mean he's coming or doesn't mean he isn't coming. Hes being paid by SC to do whats good or there program.
He has a buy out clause that will change all if he leaves

Pat Forde, ESPN.com college football and basketball columnist, reported on Friday’s “The Dan Patrick Show” on ESPN Radio that West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez will receive an offer from the University of Alabama Saturday night to become the Crimson Tide’s next head coach. That offer will apparently be made after WVU’s regular season finale against Rutgers.

Forde’s revelation follows other media reports in the past few days which indicate that Alabama has now centered its attention on Rodriguez, after first approaching and then being spurned by current Miami Dolphin coach Nick Saban and current South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier.

Reportedly, Tide officials are ready to offer Rodriguez a guaranteed, seven-year contract worth over $3 million per year. The 43-year-old Rodriguez made $1.1 million last year at WVU, his fifth as the head coach of his alma mater. A native of Grant Town, W.Va., and a 1985 graduate of West Virginia University, Rodriguez signed a new seven-year contract with WVU this past summer calling for him to receive a guaranteed salary of $900,000 per year plus bonuses, and that guaranteed salary would increase by $50,000 each year over the life of the contract. There are also a variety of bonuses available, including an additional $75,000 for a Big East regular season title, $75,000 for a BCS bowl appearance, $25,000 for a non-BCS bowl appearance, $150,000 for a national championship and $10,000 for satisfactory evaluation of the team’s academic achievement, as well as various other incentives.

Rodriguez’s current contract at WVU also includes a hefty buy-out clause. If either the University or Rodriguez would terminate the contract prior to Aug. 31, 2007, the buy-out would be $2 million. That buy-out decreases to $1.5 million after Aug. 31, 2007.

Despite that buyout, several sources within the West Virginia athletic department have indicated that Rodriguez has said he is ready to accept the Alabama job, if offered, and that he’s already talking to members of his staff about accompanying him to Tuscaloosa.

To this point, most of the negotiations between Rodriguez and Alabama have apparently been done between agents and other third parties, so it does not appear that Rich has sat down with Alabama athletic director Mal Moore and reached a definite agreement. But all signs indicate negotiations are moving in that direction. There is time for either side to change their mind, but to this point, it appears likely that Rodriguez will become the next head coach at Alabama. An official announcement could come as early as Sunday or Monday.

Spurrier helping Alabama with their search? HAHAHA!

Things on Steve Spurrier to do list as coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks:

1. Prepare my team for an upcoming Bowl Game.
2. Prepare my assistants.
3. Recruit
4. Do the day to day things running a successful D1 football team.
5. Help Alabama with their coaching search.

HAHA....Puleeeeeeze!

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:19 PM   Just checking in to see if ya'll have landed Spurrier yet. Alabama fans are some sick puppies. Do you realize how foolish your fan base looks to the rest of the country? What coach would want to deal with a group of fans who belong in an asylum. Oh I now see that Spurrier is helping with the coaching search. Why in the world would he help another school in the SEC land a big time coach. Time to come back to reality tide fans. LMAO!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:22 PM   If Stoops has a problem with boosters interfering, why would he come to Alabama who has been put on probation for this?

Some Tide fans don't speak for ALL Tide fans.....

Spurrier helping us find a coach is like saying Saddam Hussein is helping the U.S. look for Bin Laden.....its ridiculous.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:25 PM   pat forde's was on finebaum and said he di not say rodriguez was comming to alabama. he was also pissed at the wv metro news for reporting it.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:46 PM   Not ridiculous at all. Steve and Mal are friends and have been for quite some time. He's not going out of his way to help UA, but he is making phone calls.

This is all just things that I'm hearing. He's not flying around and doing the interviewing, but he can make phone calls to ask about interest in the position. You'd be surprised how many people do that.

Jackasses.

Ohh, and Pat Forde said that article at WVmetronews.com was complete crap because he didn't report that at all.
# posted by Blogger Memphis Tider : 4:47 PM   The only way Spurrier would help us in the least is if we were looking to hire one of his current assistants. We aren't.

Stoops? He's the highest paid coach in college football at OU, and he is going to leave for a little bit more money to try and take Alabama to a level that he has already taken OU? That's dumb.

This kind of thing is a credibility killer.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 5:14 PM   LMAO, there is no way Stoops comes to Bama. This rumor is just as crazy as the Jack Del Rio rumor. After the coaching job he did at OU this year there is NO WAY they let him leave.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:38 PM   Neither Stoops, Spurrier, Saban, Rodriguez, Grobe, or Johnson are coming to Bama. Who the hell wants to deal with Mal Moore and the fans we have? If we're lucky we might land the coach of South Panola High School. But, then again, why would he want to come to this shit hole either?

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:46 AM   Just a thought ----from the Tulsa rag:

At 9/13/2006 2:51:45 PM, Does Stoops still like his job?

More and more, I wonder if Bob Stoops still enjoys his job as OU football coach.

Two players betrayed him, media criticized him and he seems increasingly irritable.

Longtime observers of Stoops’ press luncheons say his demeanor Tuesday might have been the most agitated they’ve seen in that weekly setting. Stoops has never liked the media much, so irritability is nothing new. But his frustration is higher than ever.

Here’s one guess about why he’s so upset. Two of Stoops’ fundamental principles have been damaged – trust and pride.

Players violated Stoops’ trust when they lied and cheated.

Then, whether it’s fair or not, Stoops’ reputation of running a clean program was sullied. He can’t get that back, and it undoubtedly bothers him deeply. Stoops has always prided himself on more than winning. He wanted to be respected as a winner who ran a good program. Now, an NCAA investigation seems inevitable.

Put it all together, and it makes me wonder: Does Bob Stoops still enjoy his job? And if not, is he the kind of person who will keep a job he doesn’t like?

Note the date and the rumors of Spurrier and Mal having discussions----hmmmmm

"Search is focused on Saban & Rodriquez. Could know by early next week. Nick Saban has a tight timeline. If he doesn't act soon, look for Rich Rodriquez to accept."

If this is correct, all the Stoops rumors are just that, rumors....
