Don't freak out
People are beginning to freak out. Everybody is out for blood now that Richie Rich has decided to stay at home instead of, and I quote, "move up to the big leagues."

I know that it LOOKS like this could be a huge mess, but I read a post a few days ago that went something like this:

Conversation between Mal Moore and Rich Rodriguez:

Mal Moore: Hey Rich, I've got an idea.
Rich Rodriguez: Yeah Mal, what's that?
MM: You're hinting around that you want more money and your facilities upgraded. We've already got our coach, but he doesn't want to be announced until after the bowl games.
RR: What does your new coach have to do with me?
MM: Let's say we put some leaks out and say that we've been discussing contracts, etc and that everything fell apart in the end because you just couldn't leave home. That way it'll look like I'm doing something, rather than just keeping completely quiet and letting all of the Alabama fans rant and rave about how we're not trying hard enough.
RR: I think I like that idea. I could get all of the stuff I need to be successful at WV, along with some more moolah, and all of us will be happy. Sucks that Bama fans will have to wait without any idea what's going on.
MM: Well, let's just say I think they'll be happy when they hear who it is.

I wish. Bob Stoops, please.

Anyway, don't freak out yet. There is somebody that wants the job that is a good coach. We just haven't been there to ask yet. We'll find them, or they'll find us, one or the other.

Comments: i had this exact conversation with a co-worker this morning when it started coming out that he might not come. Mal just might have that ace in his back pocket. If you listened to Coach Stallings this afternoon on Finebaum, he said that he thought they'd been too public. He made a great analogy by saying "you wouldn't ask a girl out and then tell everybody you were going on a date with her before she said yes, would you?" Maybe, just maybe, these leaks about "reliable sources" are intentionally being released by the athletic department or similar group. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:24 PM   We probably won't hear anything until Moday, at the earliest, on the never ending search for coaches. We are actually stuck in a time warp, I think. I won't have any fingernails on Monday, so I probably won't be able to type, use a remote control, or turn my radio on. So please, on Monday someone scream as loud as you can in my direction if you hear anything!

Roll Tide Roll!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 7:50 PM   As much as I would like Saban we wont get him. I will tell you the main reason why. It is because of several Board of Trustee members. Several members have been trying to sabatoge the coaching search from the beggining. They are more interested in lining their pockets than the welfare of the University of Alabama. People need to understand that this is the reason Alabama has been stuck in the status quo for over a decade. These people are not allowing any changes that could jeopardize themselves. If These individuals, from what I hear going by the names of Gaston, Ross and King, had gone along with everyone else, Saban would be our coach right now. If Saban was named coach, they would no longer have the power they have now so rejected Saban's requests. These individuals on the Board of Trustees has completely screwed over Alabama. You can count on another puppet coach coming in for these individuals to control. It is unfortunate and disgraceful that people like that are allowed power and are the ones making the decisions in Alabama. They should be ashamed of themselves.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 8:15 PM   JT, those names are not of people of the BOT. I too agree that there have been some peculiar things going on, but it hurts your cred. to have names of people not even on the board.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 10:22 PM   There is a coach that has been talked about briefly. He has not been a head coach at any college he's been to, but in my personal opinion he is the best offensive mind in football. He produced names like Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Carson Palmer, and Matt Leinart. That name is Norm Chow. But here again the Trustees won't hire him because they want total control.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 10:34 PM   I have to agree that the BOT has too much control.

These conspiracy theories are killing me. You actually think that MM is smart enough to have an ace in the hole?

MM is embarrassing. The BOT is embarrassing.

Let's just cancel football this year. We have a good basketball team.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:28 PM   Unfortunately, Mark Gottfried coaches that one.........
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 12:17 AM   Are you guys serious??? I enjoy these blogs as much as the next guy, but we obviously have no big name coaches interested. I am a huge Bama fan, class of 2000, but Mal has obviously screwed the pooch on this one. What is our next move??? Do people honestly believe the transgressions of the last several days have anything to do with covering for another coach who has a "done deal" with us???
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 12:42 AM   I can't believe that everbody wants to blame MM for all of this. This is a clusterf--- so large that no one man can be at fault. Yes one man can be the scapegoat but one man cannot shoulder all the blame. The leaks and infighting must stop. People that have their own agenda must be found and dismissed before starting a search for another coach. NO, this was not a smoke screen for some secret hire of a great coach. This was an explosion which sprayed sh-t and laughing stock all over what was once revered as as an elite educational and sports university. This whole situation reminds me of a man that builds a fortune 500 business, dies and leaves it to a couple of sons who only squander it.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 8:19 AM   Nice!

It's the "Wag the Dog" philosopy for coaching searches.

Mal and the Board have been reading Sun Tzu's "Art of War".
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:48 AM   What if we have to try to talk Joe Kines into staying on as our head coach?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 3:34 PM   Steve Sarkasian is really good, Valdosta State Guy Hackett also, and others....Stoops is not coming...ever.....most of your list nothing but scrubs...

ATL Falcons Offensive Coordinator, Mariucci's reason for winning in the 90's, he made Jeff Garcia into a Pro Bowler...and if he had a QB in ATL they would be a playoff, they do btw in Schaub, but not in Vick.

They can run the heck out of the football.

ATL's OC or Sarkasian...

# posted by Blogger Joe : 8:28 PM   Hey I followed you right up to the point where you said Mal Moore had an idea. Of course you didn't say he had a good idea.

Since the new movie "Marshall" about the other big football team in West Virginia has been released, there has to be a movie version of this triumph of West Virginia University . There will be a change in casting as the star of the movie Coach Rod will also play Mal Moore. This ought to work out since he has already "played" him big time.
