"You're stuck with me..."
Spurrier told his kids "you're stuck with me." Says he is not leaving.

Still suspicious though.

Rodriguez next? Watch and see if West Virginia plays poorly this weekend. Bama could end up screwing themselves by getting RR interested in the Bama job, then Rutgers beats his team this weekend, and Louisville could possibly be picked over LSU for the BCS at large selection.

Ehh...I think Pat White's gonna run all over Rutgers.

Roll White.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 5:39 PM   Wait wait wait.. does ANYONE think that maybe Spurrier hasn't seen the offer UA has in store for him yet? Are we certain that him and Mal Moore have spoke?

Spurrier will really have to consider the offer that Mal is spossedly putting on the table.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 5:48 PM   If SS only wanted to win the SEC we dont need him anyway--- we should only aim for te top National Champions again!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:03 PM   Give up on Spurrier, he is staying at USC. He is washed up anyway and since 2001 is 26 wins and 30 losses between NFL and USC. We need Petrino and Bill Oliver to work together. Rodriquez spread option gets qbs killed and JPW cannot run that system. Same with Paul Johnson's system......Our players only match pro-style passing offenses nothing else...PETRINO, PETRINO, PETRINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:10 PM   All of the reliable sources say SS met with Malfunction and then went home. Maybe he just used Bama to get more money from USC. Cockytalk is saying that the admin will be announcing a new contract as early as Friday. Somebody out here please tell me that there is more to the plan than this. This was not a home run. This is once again Bama going to 2nd., 3rd., 4th. option and Bama Nation being let down or disappointed. Man, I need a drink!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:14 PM   Go to ESPN and read Bill Curry's comments. I don't understand why Bama is getting ragged on. Is it too much to expect a winning program? They talk about all these coaches: Fran left, we didn't fire him, Price got fired on moral issues before he even coached a game, and Shula was given a fair chance with only one season out of four with a winning record. Is it too much to ask if we pay you $1.5 million to win at least 7 or 8 games? This is a load of crap and I want someone to tell Dr. Witt that we need a change at the AD position.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:22 PM   You are a liar, JPW ran that system in high school, and it doens't get QBs killed you dumb liar....CHRIS CAPPS GETS QBS KILLED.

And I hate to break it to you but Tommie Frazer, Scott Frost, Vince Young, Troy Smith aren't exactly the prot pocket passers.....

Fact is none of you iditos know anything about offense, or Coach Rod, he THREW THE BALL TO AN UNDEFEATED SEASON IN 1999 with Tulane and Shaun King.....he also did the same at Clemson.

You *idiots* and your precious shulaball are gone,...oh yea and Chris Leak, DJ Shockley, Michael Robinson, are all laughing at you as these guys run and throw to more thna 30 points a game....

Why don't you imbeciles go realize you don't know how to run the football, or throw or it, or conduct an offense in anyway that can produce a National Chamo\ponship....Caoch Rod is an innovator, everyone is going to him for the spread, he adjusts like a mad man, and is demanding,....you bzos were complaing about the Wishbone when The Bear brought it to Bama...(It can't work in the SEC), this isn't the runa nd shoot....its a n option spread...ITS POWER RUNNING!!!!

Look dummies, JPW, Mcerloy, and the liek all ran in high school for a lot fo yards, JJ and Mcelroy more than JPW but they ran...

Greg ran the offense that Chase Daniels ran in high school.

That doesnt't mean they run the ball 20 times a game, no 5-10 times a game would be enough...it would drive defenses mad and open

JPW can run some, in fact HE'S BETTER THAN LEAK.....But you morons can't see that...typical shulaballers making excuses for their failures and their ineffective anti-innovative, up the middle runs that are so easily stuffed, escpecially when they use a RB who isn't cut out for it in anyway.

Who has won a Sugar Bowl more recently?

Bama or Coach Rod? that answers your crap right there.

When I'm ordering my replica national championship ring for 2007 for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide as coach by Rich Rodriguea, you can all bow down low before me, and kiss my ......

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 6:45 PM   I agree with 4seam (although I'm pretty sure that he's certifiably crazy). We should consider ourselves lucky if we get Rich Rodriguez. He can adjust his spread offense to the fit his personnel. He is considered an offensive genius by his peers, and he has been extremely successful running his O at Tulane, Clemson, and WVU. If he gets a top-notch DC (like Kines), we should be a very good football team in the near future.

So what if spurrier doesnt come, it would have been great to throw it up in the national medias face but we just move on there are other excellent choices out there. Petrino, Coach Rod, and even though im not the biggest fan of him, Saban is still definitely in it. Trust me. we dont have to get lucky guys

Moore went after Spurrier because he was free to talk this week. Rodriguez, Johnson and most of the other candidates have games on Saturday, so they won't meet with Bama officials until afterwards.

So he took his best shot at Spurrier this week. Spurrier said no, and now Moore can go after R-Rod or whoever he has in mind next week.

Why didnt they wait to fire him, or at least have a verbal committment first? Cant say that I completely disagree with you. But, when i say have a commitment, I mean a verbal agreement on the sly. Not openly interviewing for his job in front of him. I'm not going to pretend that I know how things work in the AD at a major university, but i do know how things work in a large corporation.

I dont think that firing him w/o a concrete plan was a good idea because of the ramifications on recruiting, players, and public image of the program while not having someone at the helm. That is my concern. We are in the middle of recruiting season, and not having a coach to sell is not good. Selling the university itself is usually not enough. We need to total package to offer kids.

Anyone want to chime in??

RR is currently running the "spread option" because it suits his personel. If JPW is the beast quarterback we have (and I have every reason to believe he is) then RR can run a form of the spread that is similar to what Texas Tech and South Carolina run. The fact of the matter is that RR has been is the spread inovator, he was running it long before Urban Meyer.

First, he makes 5 million a year. Second, he will have at least one more year in Tampa mainly because the Bucs will have 27 million to use on free agents next year and even though he is losing this year, he gets a free pass with the Super Bowl win a few years back. They could have been speaking with Jim Leavitt at USF (also in Tampa). I dont think Leavitt will leave because he has brought USF from club football to being on the verge of a BCS Bowl game since they play in the weak Big East. As Bear built UA, Leavitt will some day have buildings, streets, and statues of himself at USF. I believe the UofA plane was in Tampa to make sure Robert Marve (stud QB at Plant High School in Tampa) doesnt switch his decision from Bama. He said that Coach Shula was the reason he was going to Bama....they dont want to lose him. Just my take.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:38 PM   The following is from ESPN's "Football 101" column about Rich Rodriguez's system. The guy's an offensive genius AND a disciplinarian. He's the one we want.

------------------------------------
Team building
West Virginia does a great job with team building. The Mountaineers' staff does some different things to develop unity. WVU's team building ideas include some simple rules:

• No cell phones in the football building
The staff wants players talking to each other, not girlfriends or friends, during football time.

• Name game
Every player must know the name of every person involved with the program, including cooks, janitors, managers, trainers, secretaries, etc. That sounds simple, but when you have over 200 people involved in a program, it is not. Rodriguez hands out pictures to help the players identify the staff, and then tests the players.

• Accountability
In the offseason, Rodriguez divides his team into eight different groups consisting of players from a variety of positions. Then he sets up a point system under which the groups are rewarded or punished based on individuals' academics, offseason program and off-field issues. This makes players accountable to each other in the offseason.

He calls ALL the shots in Tampa. Alabama isnt going to beat 5 million a year and there are too many chiefs in the teepee at UA
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:02 PM   "how do you say 13 in spanish?"

Trece pronounce "tray say"
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:05 PM   Also, Gruden's offense is supposedly very sophisticated. He himself and Rich Gannon have said that it takes a QB at least 3 years to learn it. By the time our QB mastered his offense...he would be graduating.

Gruden has said that he tore his playbook in half this year for Gradkowski (rookie)
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:07 PM   BREAKING NEWS on the Birmingham News website just came out. They said that we talked to Spurrier directly today and feel that he left the door open for more talks. We intend to continue pursuing him. Check it out for yourself.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:33 PM   Spurrier would not tell his kids that they are stuck with him and then leave. If he did, then we must question his character. Do we want someone that would go there?
I believe Spurrier is in the twilight of his coaching career. He can win 6-7 games a year at USC, play golf twice a week and enjoy life. At Bama, he would have to win at least 8 games a year, and beat Auburn every other year just to keep the BOT off his back. Does he really want that kind of pressure at 62? Let's also remember that his kid is a walk on QB at USC....he wouldnt leave that. I wouldnt want him to.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:33 PM   Coach Rod's dicipline(spelling) speaks volumes.You can't win w/out it!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:35 PM   To the anonymous Petrino lover: Shut the f*&% up!! There are 115 comments on this blog, but about 1/3 are just you screaming PETRINO in all caps. First, JPW isn't winning a Heisman. Second, you have absolutely no basis for saying that RR's offense "gets QBs killed." Third, how in the hell did you conclude that RR can't coach the passing game? You realize that this isn't his first season coaching football, right? When he was OC at Tulane, his QB set the NCAA single season record for pass efficiency rating and threw for over 340 yards per game. He simply fits his system to match his personnel.

Here's what I suggest. Take off your knee pads and remove Petrino's cock from your mouth. Use your spare time (we know you have some since you've posted the same friggin' message 8 times on every 'Bama bulletin board) to do some research and come up with something educated to say. If you have some facts to back up any of your assertions, then they will be welcome. Until then, quit acting like a 4-year-old girl chanting for daddy at his company softball game and let the big boys have an intellectual discussion.

UA reps talk to Spurrier
Representatives of the University of Alabama spoke directly with South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier today, according to three sources close to Alabama’s coaching search and one source close to Spurrier.

At one point of the day, Spurrier seemed favorable toward the opportunity, the source close to Spurrier said.

By the end of the day, The State newspaper of Columbia, S.C., reported that Spurrier told his team that he was not leaving them. A report from WLTX News19 in Columbia said Spurrier told his players “some of you might not like me, but you’re stuck with me.”

Alabama officials believe Spurrier has left the door open and intend to continue their efforts, according to three individuals familiar with the university’s search.

Meanwhile Coach Rod i waiting saying, "I can pass, I can run, I'm as innovative as they come, I'm the biggest innovator in college football in the last 20 years, everyone from Texas to USC is coming to visit me during the off-season trrying to learn some of what I do, I am the complete opposite of shulaball, I score Touchdowns, please give me one of those patented Bama defenses, I'll win you some NCs!"
# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 2:28 AM   Louisville runs some spread passing, Sprea dis one-back, shotgun stuff. Rich uses TEs, Meyer fixe dhis "finesse" spread with a TE, Rod does not run a "finesse" spread, this guy is running a power scheme and tons of other stuff that blows the doors off people, the USF loss was minor, there were problems in that game.

Fact is he bet MSU at MSU 42-14....shulaball never did that...oh yea and JPW ain't winning no heisman you delusional fruit, first of all he plays for Bama, secondly he is not te greatest thing ever, he can run, he is very mobile, we can run him to spice some thing sup a few times a game and throw in some OSU passing offense, a little tricks, some I-form(which Rod does use) and Pro-set and a little soemthing extra(which Rod does) and we are frickin set.

Fact WVU would have scored 50 on Louisville if not for 6 fumbles....oh yeah Slaton and White were injured.

Oh yeah, Bama has a far superior o-line, he would install Cardwell at Center, and Caldwell at RT, he would have run and used JJ as a QB, and we would have scored at least 34 points per game this year.

DJ and KB's production would not slack either.....he would use them too....

I believe we will know a first of week what coach we are getting, bowls will be decided & games will be over. I think everyone has made the decisions and that out of respect for there programs which are still paying them to work there they are doing there jobs.
Moore has his faults but he is respected & follows the old rules of doing things in a orderly & correct way.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:34 AM   BAMA HAS A NEW COACH!!!!!
According to a reliable source, Chuck Norris has accepted the position of head
coach at the University of Alabama. He is scheduled to arrive in Tuscaloosa by
fiery chariot at 3:00 pm tomorrow.

Although he has no prior head coaching experience, Norris is believed to have
used his patented roundhouse kick to travel back in time and take 20 years of
coaching lessons from the legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant. Norris also holds the
coveted rank of "houndstooth belt" in kung fu. Norris is not expected to be
introduced at a press conference, as everyone knows damn well who he is. The first question on everyone's mind is, "can he beat Auburn?" Norris's response: "Any fingers that Tubby shows will be promptly roundhouse-kicked into oblivion. He might want to keep those ears tucked into his hat too." He also said that he plans to address the offensive line issue by replacing the current "zone-blocking" scheme with a new "roundhouse blocking" scheme. He promised to explain this scheme further whenever he damn well pleases.

The Chuck Norris hiring has already proven to have an immediate effect on
Alabama merchandising, as sales of houndstooth belts and headbands have risen 700% in the last 2 hours. More to come on this story and on the Tubberville suicide watch. Stay tuned.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:51 AM   Forget Spurrier and his 26 wins, 30 losses since leaving the Gators in 2001. Petrino is the key to the Tide's future success. Not a system that destroys QBs and simply makes then a runningback that hands off or very rarely throws the ball...no spread option offense at BAMA. We need Petrino, remember Brohm's injury this year was to his HAND not his HEAD or LEGS. WE NEED PETRINO AND BILL OLIVER!!1

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:51 AM   The more I think about it and the more I read up on it, the more fired up I'm getting on Rich Rodriguez!

I think he will be an EXCELLENT choice for the job and will bring instant success to the program. It may take longer to get the system he has going full speed, but JPW ran a similar system in high school, Greg McElroy did as well, and with Upchurch in the backfield, watch out! I just hope he could keep Paw Paw Kines from going to Texas!!

Perhaps we will end up with a better choice than the old ball coach after all. Besides, Spurrier is older and Rodriguez is a younger fellow with many years to go. His demeanor and style will bring instant credibility back to our program.

I WILL DEFINATELY BE WATCHING THE WVU & RUTGERS GAME!

In Rod We Trust!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:55 AM   i find it even funnier how the barners from cowcountry come in here and post let alone read what we got going on. that just shows no matter how the last 5 years have gone we still own this state big time. so for all you wingnut followers take full advantage of our down time because soon we will be back and you all will be going on secret missions to hire toobervilles replacement and last i heard terry bowden is still your daddy
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:56 AM   Barners fear Petrino not the Read Option. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said that speed is the way to stop Coach Rod's O...that is what Auburn is built on. What they cannot account for is a power run attack like Petrino has and magnificent pass plays. Petrino is the answer to Tuberville and the Lowder people.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 12:52 PM   What's the latest news about Mal's offer to Spurrier? Wasn't an official offer supposed to be made today? If so, what's the deal?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 1:16 PM   From Joe Schad's blog today (ESPN.com):
"The rumors on Thursday that South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier had accepted an offer from Alabama are simply not true. Neither are the ones that he had scheduled a meeting with Alabama or received an offer from the Tide. There is a faction of the Alabama community that badly wants to land Spurrier, but don't expect it to happen as the decision-makers don't necessarily want to go in that direction. In fact, the far more likely scenario is Spurrier landing a big raise from the Gamecocks. This is in negotiation. However, I'm told the top candidates from Alabama's perspective right now are Spurrier, Rich Rodriguez, Jim Grobe, Paul Johnson and Jeff Tedford. Potential candidates not likely to get involved include Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino, Houston Nutt, Frank Beamer and Mike Riley. So the guy who keeps touting Petrino should shut the fuck up. I'm told Alabama is going to take its time on this hire, wanting badly to get it right. The final decision will be made by the president and the athletic director only. One person close to the situation predicted Alabama could be the last of the major job openings to fill. Rodriguez, in my estimation, is the place to put your bets. Expect him to meet with Alabama shortly after the Mountaineers' regular season ends on Saturday."

(Okay, so I actually added one extra sentence in there. But the rest actually was taken verbatim from Schad.)
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 1:31 PM   You guys get off PJ. He is not a candidate for Bama. We are not looking at him. He is not on our radar. We will not hire PJ. The only people talking about PJ at Bama are you guys on the blog. Put PJ with Ditka, Segal, Parcels, and Chuch Norris:none of them are coming to Bama!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 1:54 PM   To get off of the Alabama coaching search for a second....let me ask you guys what you think about Southern Cal getting the opportunity to play again for a NC? I say that losing to Oregon State should automatically take them out. Michigan lost on the road to Ohio State. Florida lost to Auburn in a close game on the road. A one loss team in the SEC or Big Ten is much more qualified than a one loss team in the Pac 10. I am getting tired of these pansy azz writers out west and ESPN stroking the Trojans all the time. Urban Meyer said it best when he said 'it's tough to get style points in the SEC'! If you put USC or Ohio State in the SEC, I guarrantee they have at least one loss if not more....

The SEC teams should be pissed on the direction that college football is going. We shouldn't go on style points or records....let's line up and play. PLAYOFFS BABY!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:07 PM   What are they gonna do when two SEC teams are playing for the NATIONAL TITLE? (when and if we get a playoff system)
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:09 PM   To the guy who is not fond of Paul Johnson, read the third sentence on the front page of tidesports.com (the only website that is attempting to report it like it is). Evidently, he's the No. 3 guy (excluding Spurrier) behind Saban (yeah right) and RR.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:19 PM   No johnson isnt. read alittle more into it. why do you people want johnson. we arent even off probation yet and yall are trying to bring on more heat with bringing him in. Hes not that good of a coach anyway. if we end up with him we should have just kept what we had and strive for mediocrity. give me a break
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:22 PM   Why do you say he's not a good coach? He's got a .742 winning percentile in 9 years. What you got?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 2:28 PM   I am the guy who doesn't think PJ is on our list and I know that for a FACT! Ask anyone with a BOT contact and they will tell you the same. This blog has listed many of the guys on our list and plain and simple PJ is not one of them. I'm sorry...
