Team meeting at 9pm
Team meeting at the football complex in Tuscaloosa at 9pm. Not common timing, especially for after the season is over and before a bowl game is announced. This was confirmed by Juwan Simpson.

Also heard word of a team meeting in South Carolina. Could just be routine in Columbia, SC.

News stations are gathering around the football complex to try and get word of what's going on.

More as I hear it.

Comments: I am re-posting this here...I posted it under the Shula contract thread today, but I realized that thread was started Wed...I've been away a few days...so most of you probably wouldn't see it. I think this is an important point about Shula's contract:

All this fuss about Shula's buyout is ridiculous. First of all, the $4,000,000 is spread over the remaining life of the contract. That's $800,000 per year.

Second, Shula is required to act in good faith in seeking new employment, and any income earned during the remaining life of the contract is deducted from the $800,000 per year. And the employment is not limited to football. It includes income earned while self-employed as well as endorsements.

In other words, if he gets another head coaching job that pays him 800,000 per year, Alabama owes him nothing. If he makes 800,000 next year selling real estate in Gulf Shores, the University owes him nothing next year.

This supposed 4,000,000 buyout could end up costing the University less than a million. It could even end up costing them absolutely nothing.

Can anyone give a first hand report from the ground in TTown?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:00 PM   5 minutes from football complex.. i'll drive up there and look myself and post results in a few...
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:15 PM   There is a routine team meeting taking place but it was already scheduled and was not called due to the Spurrier rumors - Fox6 News at 9:00 just reported. However, Fox6 did say that something could be announced as early as tomorrow morning regarding Shula's fate.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:28 PM   Per Gilberry. The meeting was about bowl scenarios and workout scheduling. No major news to report.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:29 PM   Looks like there are at least two media crews there along with some police escorts (probably just to keep the media where they belong). I did see a vehicle parked in Mal Moore's designated parking place but not sure if it was his. It was a lexus so, it's a possibility. But, that all being said, the meeting could still be about bowl games and the plans for bowl preparation.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:35 PM   Yeah right, we never have meetings for bowl peparation...what a joke. We can do that on Monday, they never have meetings on Sundays....that can be left to a work day, and 9 o'clock at night?
# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 10:22 PM   Actually, they have meetings EVERY Sunday before practice (which during regular season is at 8:45pm). The saga continues as the meeting concluded with nothing more than "business as usual".
