If anybody wants to take a good long look at this and tell me if they read the same thing, please do.
The buyout only includes the base salary, if I'm not mistaken. Base salary for Mike Shula is $200,000 per year, which would make his buyout $1.2M if I'm not mistaken. Where is everyone getting this $4 figure?
If somebody has Spurrier's contract available, please send it on over. And if you read more into Shula's contract, please give me a shout.

Mcceady is being his usual anti-investigative do now work scoff at the truth not listen to anyone, engage in unreasonable pathetic responses, and oh ignore the facts.
This guy is making fun of the thought of Spurrier coming to Bama, he dismissed his wfe being in TTown, He ignroe the fact they met in Augusta with Bryant....he is getting his crap wrong again, some idiot said it was this tuesday, IT WAS A WEEK AGO.......
Mccready had some South Carolina idiot reporter who said USC was likely to be 1 or 2 int eh west yeah right...Rice is going tot he nfl, his defense his only good not great, not very athletic, PLUS Jawjuh, Florida, and since UT is somewhat back USC is gonna get creamed...they wil have 4-5 losses guaranteed next year...and may not make a bowl....
Florida is going to be awesome Harvin, tebow, defense etc. Jawjuh will have Stafford, those WRs now Sophs and Jrs etc, defense, UT will have everybody back...
USC is gonna be a grade C+ team going against A- and A teams....
Plus a tough schedule...
The fact is USC has little money, horrible facilities, not populace, very little in state football and that all goes to Clemson.... Spurrier wants to win he looks at our 4 NFL WRs and Jamal Lewis liek Jimmy Johns and the talent coming down the pipe the talent excepially at QB with JPW9who would be the most talented QB he's had besides Grossman).......JPW is more mobile too and this was his first year.
He looks at what we did with the worst coach Shula callig his 5 total plays in 1 formation with predictbale run to apss ratios on every down and his pathetic red zone offense and his missuse/non-use of talent and shuttling Capps out there to make sure we never beat a good team much less blow them out as we should have in virtually eveyr game this year...
Mccready the assclown said "We have no talent, not ttalented" WRONG IDIOT we are the msot talented offense in the country....we have tremendous speed, athleticism, hands, heights, and strength(all except Oakley who is a little small but he very fast and quick with great hands)....DJ is lightning quick and has a Jerry Ric eliek abiltiy to get open plus the size to literally fight of 2-3-4 defenders to catch a ball i almost every game for 40-50 yards.....
We own Mississippi, Alabama is a great palce to recruit, Florida, and Nationally, we are ALABAMA WE AUTO-RECRUIT+SPURRIER unstoppable.
His offense with our defenses will be amazing. Spurrier's duaghter isn't atatched to Columbia in anyway, things change, the coaching search began quitely right after she moved...etc.
Shula's offense never has and never will work, he holds back an awesome team, he is arrogant and stupid and entirely incapable of being a leade r INT HE RIGHT DIRECTION.
Spurrier is all of those thigns and he has guts.
His good friend Bill Oliver hinted at him beign very open to the idea of leaving USC for a better place, he jsut wanted to "have some fun"(get back in coaching, quickly, jsut to coach, USC was the best available he knwos he can really do nothing there.
I want Spurrier and I really think we got him, we are just waiting until Sunday or Monday after the Clemson game with USC to announce it.... # posted by 4SEAM : 4:18 PM
Last week USA Today had all contracts by conference/coach listed.Don't know if this will be any help. BTW.Thanks for all you are doing keeping us informed.Hard to pick thru the B.S. on local forums. # posted by Anonymous : 4:23 PM
no problem. i can't guarantee that some of this isn't bs, but it is at least interesting. if it's the truth, i'll tell you. # posted by Memphis Tider : 4:27 PM
After reading the contract, I noted the buyout clause in section 5.01(f). It states that if the University ends the contract without cause it agrees to pay Coach a settlement of $3M, plus $200K per year remaining on contract. It also states that the University can pay the settlement in monthly payments up until the time the contract was actually supposed to end. # posted by Anonymous : 4:34 PM
Yup. So make that a $4.2M buyout.
Either way, we act like these boosters don't have that.

Our Bosster shave enough money, to buyout Sula and the McDonalds franchise...open up the wallet....it can only help us..... # posted by 4SEAM : 8:05 PM
Good Lord, what a clueless bunch of BS that was. The Bama plane was in Augusta - 70 miles from Columbia - and the only explanation is they were meeting with Spurrier. Are you serious?
FOUR NFL WR's and a Jamal Lewis like Jimmy Johns? ROFLMAO.
The most talented offense in the country? That literally may be the DUMBEST statement I've read in the last five years.
Sidney Rice has already announced he's returning to USC. Spurrier was in every game this year, including all the ones against the "awesome" teams you mentioned, and he did it with one of the five youngest teams in college football.
Very little in-state football in SC? The state has produced more NFL players than any other per capita, and Clemson hardly dominates in-state recruiting.
I could go on, but you're so far in left field that it's not worth it. # posted by Anonymous : 3:21 PM
The reason that everyone is getting the $4M figure is because not only do they have to buy out Shula, but all of his crew too. His offensive and defensive coaches, assistant coaches, etc. Therefore the buyout amount would triple to become 4.
However, I don't think they should get rid of Shula. They should give him more of a chance. He started out with a crappy team (come on, you all know it) and has drug them out of the rut they were in. I believe that we should keep Shula and get a new offensive coach! # posted by Anonymous : 4:34 PM
Go read Article V - Sec. 501 - F. There is your buyout for the millions. # posted by Anonymous : 8:44 PM
Shula inherited a 10 win team and won 4 games, then he won 6, then rode the heels of a great defense(still no offense-Shula's line of expertise)to a nail biting 10 win season....now we are back to the mediocrity that Shula brings to the table!Rader is SHULAS Boy so if he goes so goes Shula.. # posted by Anonymous : 5:25 PM
All this fuss about Shula's contract is ridiculous. First of all, the $4,000,000 is spread over the remaining life of the contract. That's $800,000 per year.
Second, Shula is required to act in good faith in seeking new employment, and any income earned during the remaining life of the contract is deducted from the $800,000 per year. And the employment is not limited to football.
In other words, if he gets another head coaching job that pays him 800,000 per year, Alabama owes him nothing. If he makes 800,000 next year selling real estate in Gulf Shores, the University owes him nothing.
This supposed 4,000,000 buyout could end up costing the University less than a million. It could even end up costing them absolutely nothing. # posted by Anonymous : 4:29 PM
