Nothing new...
Nothing new this morning. Just a bunch of crap about a players meeting in T-town last night and a players meeting at SC tonight. Not buying any of it because Spurrier's supposedly out recruiting. Sue Oliver apparently is telling everyone she knows about Spurrier and Brother coming to Bama.

Lots of places seem to believe that Rodriguez is coming to Alabama. I guess because his denial was the absolute weakest out of ALL the coaches that have issued statements (which is a whole lot, by the way...you didn't have this many when Miami announced their firing...haha).

Anyway, still waiting on final word. I still believe it's Spurrier. All signs point that direction.

Comments: RR looked really nervous when making his denial. He looked down, put his hands in his pocket, and shuffled his feet. I am not an expert on body language but I wish I new someone who is.

There are a lot of good coaches that we could could hire (RR, Grobe, Johnson, Mike Sherman). Hell, Dubose and Shula had an SEC championship and a 10-win season, respectively, and neither one could coach worth a damn. I hope that Bama Nation won't be so fixated on Spurrier that we don't recognize a good hire when we see it.

I learned of Shula's firing a day ahead of time because of a blog source. I am a student at Bama and legit sources all point to Spurrier. True, Spurrier could stay at SC and be adored with 7-win seasons. May I stress that this is Steve Spurrier... He has always fed on pressure. UA will give him whatever he needs. I'm calling it guys... You are trully not a Alabama Football fan that wants to get back to the NC!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:43 PM   Wow! Since 1958, only two coaches have had winning records in their careers at Navy. One was George Welsh, who is in the college football HOF. The other is Paul Johnson. And PJ's record is better than Welsh's.

PJ took over a team that had won 1 game in the previous two seasons. He went 2-10 his first season (but did beat his rival Army by 46 points to end the season) and has averaged 9.3 wins/season ever since. He's 4-0 against Army and 2-1 in bowl games.

Looks like a winner to me.

Moreover, who says that a good hire has to come from a big-name program? The nation was laughing at USC when they hired Pete Carroll. How did that work out? Spurrier was hired from Duke. Jim Tressel came from Youngstown State, for crying out loud.

[And for the record, Tressel's I-AA record: 135-57-2 (70%). PJ's I-AA record: 62-10 (86%).]

Spurrier is not the only coach who can be successful at Alabama. Keep an open mind.

Of course Shula can beat the awful teams (except Mississippi State); he has top 20 talent and gets to play those games almost exclusively at home in a 90,000 seat stadium. But I can damn near guarantee that Shula couldn't beat teams like Vandy if he was playing those games on the road and coaching the kind of talent they have at Navy or Tulsa.

Well it is a fact you need to know what type of offense the coach you are looking at runs. You think if say a 'Fisher DeBerry' comes to Bama that we would have the personnel to run the triple option out of the flexbone? You think if say a 'Fisher DeBerry' comes to Bama that we would have the personnel to run the triple option out of the flexbone? If you have to re-tool all your personnel it might not be worth it to hire that certain coach."

Point well taken. I just think that from our vantage point, with no clue who of the 30 names we have heard are being considered, its not worth the time on our part to even worry about things like that right now. If we had a public statement naming the candidates, thats a different story. But you made a strong point also.

In my opinion we should be looking at name recognition, reputation, and resume'. A good coach like spurrier, schiano, or Johnson, will find a way to win. Being able to change and adapt and not be predictable are why spurrier is so appealing to me.

Oh I agree with you, it just passes time by to do stuff like this. Your logic is correct, good coaches make the right adjustments to win. Tommy Bowden rode Rich hard at Tulane and Rich has been successful in West Virginia. I'm sure we could find many cadidates that fits this description as well.

We're in Bama man, we're supposed to talk some football.....hehhehe

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:01 PM   UPDATE: Karle on Fox 6 @ 10 p.m. said a source said Moore wants a face-to-face meeting because if Spurrier is going to say no then it needs to be face-to-face. Fox 6's Dubberly reported Spurrier's brother said Spurrier would not be leaving South Carolina. ANALYSIS: That is Karle covering his ass in case the report of a face-to-face meeting is wrong. No AD would try for a face-to-face unless he felt he had a great chance at success. If Karle's source is accurate then a meeting would indicate some type of deal. Also, Bamamag apparently has modified its report on a press conference tomorrow. No idea if this would be revised at a later time.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:25 PM   Sources: Univ. of Alabama Makes Offer to Steve Spurrier to Lead Football Program

Breaking News from The 8 Team -- Multiple sources have confirmed to CBS 8 that Steve Spurrier has been offered a contract to coach the Univ. of Alabama football team. Spurrier currently coaches at the Univ. of South Carolina.

Sources, including the Alabama Atlanta Alumni Chapter, have told us that the Univ. of Alabama has made Spurrier an offer that will make him among the top paid head coaches in college football. The apparent offer would also give him the chance to hire his son as offensive coordinator.

Last week, The 8 Team reported that Spurrier was on a plane to Alabama.

When Univ. of Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore addressed reporters Monday on the firing of Mike Shula as head coach, he said he would not make a statement until a new coach was hired.

Stay with The 8 Team for updates on this breaking

This was posted on cockytalk.com, a USC site. This supposedly came from a sports writer in SC!!!!!

"I really really really really really really really HATE to even post this....but...

A good friend of mine told me that he spoke with his friend (yeah i know how this sounds) who works as a sports writer for a local newspaper here in SC and said that the latest offer that Bama has laid on the table for Spurrier is as follows;

1) Obviously he would become the highest paid college football coach in the nation
2) Upon retiring as football coach at Bama, he would become the school's AD
3) He could name the salary for his entire coaching staff

Now, I'm with everyone else, I really don't think hes going anywhere...but you have to admit, if this offer is even close to true, that has GOT to be the most appealing offer EVER in college football!"

# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 3:35 AM   I at no time time compared JPW's speed to Pat White you liar, show me where I said that?

Fact is stupid, JPW can run, or apparently that 30 yard opening run aaginst the barn didn't impress you enough.

You sound like Shula by refusing to even think about running a draw or designed run with a person-JPW who can actually run it, and as a result, just maybe pick up some yards, maybe even on first down....

You probably thought the Darby up the middle 14 out of 18 times was a good strategy, that to be repeated game after game, failure after faillure......

Point being, You don't have to be a great runner to run the option.

JPW is a good runner, HE IS mobile, realize that.

Andrew frickin Zow ran some option and it worked, get over yourselves.

Stop holding us back with your anti-innovativeness.
# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 3:39 AM   "JPW caN't run in the spread"

Neither can Chris Leak...OH WAIT HE TORCHED US...eat your lies and ignoRance, you barners/fake tide fans.

(See this is called capitalization)Anthony "I don't think they would do that to Spurrier"....no one cares what you think...and since you know absolutely nothing about how coaching searches, negotiations, and posturing through the media is done, AND you have been wrong about everything, why don't you just go back home to mommy's tit?

Look us adults get thirsty too and we can, because of our size, reach the cabinet for a glass and pour us some coke etc....you on the other hand can barely reach around to scratch your diaper rash that is festering in your butt crack.

By the way, Probst's offense does run the QB, and the Wilson's were very mobile in high school....if you've ever seen Ross Wilson you know exactly what I mean.

So in conclusion, I am superior to the of anons, "anthony's", and other flaming fags who squeal at me at every turn while stalking me from site to site.

They feel threatened by me, they know I'm smarter than them, and know WAY MORE ABOUT FOOTBALL than their little pea brains could ever know.....and so they bitc* about me, in their ever so irrational and every so tiresome posts that go on and on implying I said things I never said, just so they can pretend to be superior.

This is like I said before, an internet pissing contest and so far the big dog (me) is drenching the muts (anothony and friends) whose little peckers aren't up to snuff to get me....
# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 3:42 AM   Hey 4seam, I'm not so sure I'd want JPW running the option at Bama for one reason: he'd get killed. Look at the beating he took this year, and Shula damn sure aint no option type coach. Hoover probably has run more option with Ross this year than they did in JPW's whole career. Ross is more of a dual threat than his brother is.

From what I read it looks like the Barners got in and has a field day last night. We should ignore their stupid posts and they will soon go away. You let them tell it we'll have to use Joe Kines next year.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:40 AM   I don't want JPW running the ball 20 times a game, 3-4-5 designed runs would work and help get the pressure off.

Use him occasionaly as a suprise, but sometimes if the defense is giving him the run for 6-7 yrads TAKE IT...

Craig Krenzel ran in the OSU-Miami NC gaema while back for 70 yards, Brady Quinn had that run against USC, JPW is much mobile mobile than these too...

I'd tell to slide run out of bounds etc. But a few runs a game and zone read option where hetakes it definietly would give the defense something to think about.

JJ can take it 15 times a game, and don't tell me that wouldn't work, look at Mcfadden in the "Wildcat"....and this is college footoball trie and tested, the zone read option out fo the spread offense, Rich Rodriguez created that thing essentially.
# posted by Blogger 4SEAM : 2:38 PM   Anthony,

The "4Seam" is a type of fastball, its the one that doesn't sink, but goes really fast, if the pitcher throwing it has the arm to get it there.

The rotation is where the 4-Seams on the baseball are now horizontally following each other after you release the baseball....you hold a 4Seam fastball using your thumb, index, and middle fingers.

Your Index and Middle fingers should be lined up(this is when your hand up like it is waving, your fingertips pointed straight up)vertically acorss the horizontal seams, take a good grip, and then throw, making sure you get some pop on the wrist, and therefore pop on the ball.

See, I can teach little girls how to play baseball!
