Finebaum talked to Spurrier today...
from tidesports.com forum...

"Finebaum said that Spurrier's denial yesterday was lame. He said that whether or not Spurrier would really take the job should be known in a couple of days.

He spoke of the right "PACKAGE" being offered again. Mostly about non money issues.

He said if the "PACKAGE" is not offered in a creative way then the answer would be no. Mal and company better find some creativity quick if they want a chance."

I believe it's a done deal, at least verbally. I think the hold up is Mal's inability to get a good contract done.

Comments: Dont get your hopes up. I'd love to have Spurrier just like anyone else but I just dont see it happening. I wouldnt listen to anything Finebaum says either, with the coaching search he knows people will do anything and with him spewing his garbage people in this state will go nuts and his ratings go up. If Finebaum says it, I'm looking in the total opposite direction.

Its the universal language (not laughter or music). He can have better recruits, better facilities, and better fans. Ultimately he can back to win big and what better place to attach his name than the University of Alabama. He doesn't want to build a program. He wants to build his name and he can do that at Alabama!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:00 PM   He has it made in South Carolina. He can win 7 games a year and be considered a genius. Add that to the fact he can still do what he wants (play golf) it makes a dream job for him. He said long before we needed or even thought about another coach that he wanted a stress free job and that is why he went to SC.

I'm telling you, Finebaum is playing this game to get ratings. As long as you people keep going crazy over everything he says or hints at, he will keep doing it to keep you listening. Go ahead and get your hopes up for Spurrier, I just dont want to hear you cry and moan when he turns us down.

I'd kill to have him here, but it aint happening.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:36 PM   Ignorant and Delusional. Name calling huh? Not all the bad apples are at bama ;P. The rumor mill is going to keep turning too. And hey, wasn't it just a rumor the other day that Mike would be fired?

I don't want to make predictions, but I don't totally disregard all these rumors I hear. I'm just going to wait to see what happens.

Bama has a really good opportunity to get a great coach (they're at a great place right now to hire one) I just hope they don't screw this one up.

As for Spurrier, whatever. He would be okay, but I'm not putting all my marbles in one bowl. There are other really great coaches out there. What about that black horse at Navy?
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 4:45 PM   Ignorant and delusional? How? I am so sick of other fans claiming we want everyone to be Bear. We don't want that and we don't have unrealistic expectations. We only want a winner. We'd have been fine with an 8 win season. One that was very possible but because sloppy coaching we did not achieve. Shula lost his job because of it. Simple. Any big program would also be dissappointed with around .5 win %. We only want to be competitive - that is it!

Keep telling yourself that. Bad thing is, you actually believe the trash you talk. I swear the IQ average drops everytime someone from Opelika posts on here.

# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 5:27 PM   Did he talk to Spurrier on air? I went to finebaum.com and saw nothing of it.
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 7:36 PM   "Call me arrogant, cocky, crybaby, whiner or whatever names you like," Spurrier said recently. "At least they're not calling us losers anymore (Tubby, hopefully you can put that thumb away soon, unless you want to suck on it). If people like you too much, it's probably because they're beating you (Hmm, Pat Dye, Phat Phil the Doughboy)." This is my grown up Christmas wish...
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 9:18 PM   First off, when is someone going to start www.firemalfuctionmoore.com? He is the true root of the programs inability to find, obtain, and retain a descent coach! Secondly, if the spurrier conversation with finebaum is true, then we should give a damn blank piece of paper and say "here ya go". Write down what you want, and you got it!!!! I hope his number 1 demand aside from bring brother oliver back would be to fire malfunction on the damn 5 o'clock news!!!!
# posted by Anonymous Anonymous : 11:55 PM   Tried to tell you Spurrier wasnt coming to Bama and that you shouldnt listen to Finebaum. It's all about the ratings baby.....
